VCU Biotech 8 - Cytogenetics Laboratory
Located on the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park, Biotech 8 is a 76,000 SF multiple tenant wet and dry laboratory, office and flex building. Engineers Plus provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing design services for the 7,100 SF renovation to provide a cytogenetics laboratory and office space.
Mechanical design included re-use of existing rooftop units and exhaust fans, converting the laboratory air system to constant volume reheat to control space pressurization. HEPA filtration was used in select research spaces.
Electrical design included power for lab, HVAC and plumbing equipment, data and LED lighting in all spaces. Lighting design included performing photometric analyses to ensure code compliance and sufficient light levels during normal and emergency operation. An existing natural gas generator was relocated, from another building on VCU’s Health Systems Campus, to provide backup power for select equipment.
Plumbing design included reconfiguration of the existing laboratory waste and vent system, the utility support of new lab equipment, emergency fixtures with tempered water supply, a new auto change over carbon dioxide manifolded tank system and piping, new reverse osmosis (RO) water systems and the additional of a natural gas emergency generator.
